Rangers Sign Reliever Kyuji Fujikawa

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Texas Rangers have signed right hander Kyuji Fujikawa to a one-year deal with a club option for 2016, the team announced on Tuesday.

Fujikawa appeared in 27 games over the last two seasons as a reliever for the Chicago Cubs, compiling a 5.04 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. He struck out 31 hitters while walking 8.

The 34-year-old had Tommy John surgery in June 2013.

Before coming to Major Leage Baseball, Fujikawa was an accomplished reliever in 12 seasons in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball Central League.

He had a 42-25 record with 220 saves and a 1.77 ERA over 562 games (14 starts) in Japan.

The deal is reportedly worth $1 million.
