SURPRISE, AZ (105.3 The Fan) - The Texas Rangers announced the extension of Jeff Banister's contract on Friday.
"Jeff set the tone from day one in spring training in 2015 and carried that message throughout the season," said Rangers President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Jon Daniels. "Through the team's early season struggles, he was able to keep everyone focused and that led to a memorable finish. We are proud to have him managing the Texas Rangers."
Texas will pick up the option on their Banister's deal for 2018, and are adding a team option for 2019.
Banister is coming off a spectacular first season in Arlington that saw the team rebound from an injury-filled 2014 season to capture the AL West Division crown.
Texas went 88-74 under Banister despite having to overcome injuries to Yu Darvish and much of the starting rotation early on in the season.
Banister was named AL Manager of the Year by the Baseball Writers Association of America.
