Rangers Sign Chirinos To One-Year Extension

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Texas Rangers have signed catcher Robinson Chirinos to a one-year contract extension, the club announced on Tuesday.

The backstop's new deal takes his contract through 2018 with an option for 2019.

The 32-year-old has spent the last four seasons in Texas.

He hit .224 with 9 home runs and 20 RBI in 57 games played in 2016.

Chirinos is slated to back up Jonathan Lucroy this season.
