ARLINGTON (AP) - The Texas Rangers have recalled left-hander Alex Claudio from Triple-A Round Rock and optioned struggling reliever Tanner Scheppers to their top minor league affiliate.

Scheppers had an 11.25 ERA in five appearances after being activated from the 15-day disabled list on April 17, allowing five runs and six hits with four walks in four innings. He had a right ankle sprain at the start of the season.

Manager Jeff Banister says the team wants Scheppers to get a chance to log some innings and get some work to regain his consistency.

Claudio had a 2.92 ERA in 15 relief appearances in his major league debut with Texas last season. He was 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA in six games for Round Rock this year.

Texas announced the moves on Monday.
