ARLINGTON (AP) - New Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister will begin the season with three players looking to make their major league debut and without a left-hander in the bullpen.

As expected, left-hander Sam Freeman was designated for assignment Sunday. The Rangers purchased the contracts of right-handers Keone Kela and Anthony Bass from Triple-A Round Rock to complete their 25-man roster.

Kela, outfielder Delino DeShields Jr. and right-hander Logan Verrett are among nine players on their first opening-day roster.

Four pitchers were put on the 15-day disabled list: left-hander Matt Harrison (spinal fusion surgery) and right-handers Tanner Scheppers (right ankle), Lisalverto Bonilla (right elbow) and Kyuji Fujikawa (right groin).

Ace right-hander Yu Darvish, who had season-ending ligament replacement surgery last month, was placed on the 60-day DL.
