Rangers Release Beimel Among Roster Moves

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - The Texas Rangers have released reliever Joe Beimel after the left-hander struggled this spring.

Also Monday, Texas optioned three players to minor league squads, and assigned four others to its minor league camp.

Beimel, who allowed 11 earned runs in three innings over four spring appearances, gets $147,541 in termination pay. His $600,000 non-guaranteed salary would have increased to $1.5 million if he had been on the active major league roster for only one day.

Right-hander Spencer Patton and catcher Tomas Telis were optioned to Triple-A Round Rock. Catcher Jorge Alfaro was optioned to Double-A Frisco.

First baseman Kyle Blanks, third baseman Joey Gallo, outfielder Jared Hoying and right-hander David Martinez were assigned to minor league camp.

Texas has 34 players on its 40-man roster and 13 non-roster invitees still in camp.
