Rangers ace Yu Darvish was headed for an MRI exam Friday after leaving his spring training debut the previous day after one inning with tightness in his right triceps.
Assistant general manager Thad Levine said that Darvish would have the exam and then be examined by team physician Dr. Keith Meister, who had planned to be in camp anyway. Levine said the club would not know until late in the day or Saturday whether to be concerned.
Darvish missed the final seven weeks last season with inflammation in his right elbow, though Levine said the tightness does not appear to be related.
The Rangers already scratched fellow starter Derek Holland from an intrasquad game due to shoulder soreness. Shortstop Elvis Andrus has also been battling a sore left knee.
