SURPRISE, AZ (105.3 THE FAN) - Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister announced Thursday that Yovani Gallardo will be the team's Opening Day starter April 6 at Oakland.

This will be Gallardo's 6th straight opener, the last five were with the Milwaukee Brewers.

"Experience" said Banister, was his main reason for choosing the 29-year old right-hander.

Banister also announced that 29-year old Ross Detwiler will be part of the Rangers starting rotation.

The pitcher for the April 10th home opener for the Rangers has not been set yet. The game against the Houston Astros at Globe Life Ballpark may see Derek Holland on the mound (the preferred option) - but nothing has been confirmed yet.
