Rangers Mailbag: Pursuing Cole Hamels

What kind of package you got put together to pull a Hamels deal? Would be a great move to have him?

This is pure speculation--and, understand that this will fluctuate based on the market--but my guess is that the Rangers would be willing to part with two upper-echelon prospects plus another one or two fringe guys. I don't think the Rangers would consider including Joey Gallo in that deal, but I think everyone else is fair game. That includes Chi Chi Gonzalez.

Is it safe to say that this is Colby Lewis' last year?

No. Not in the least. Tough to forecast what Colby's body will tell him, but if you base it off of a performance, it is tough to believe a guy who has delivered quality starts in more than 50% of his outings is on his last legs. With that said, Colby is old and I have no idea how long a hip replacement can hold up.

If Cole Hamels played for the #Rangers, would he be the #1 over Yu?

Obviously, he is asking about beyond this year. Yu won't be ready by opening day next year, so if that is your barometer, then, quite possibly, yes. But, for the sake of the question, if Yu was healthy, then I don't think so. And, maybe because teams typically allow the incumbents to hang on to the material things like that.
