ARLINGTON (AP) - The Texas Rangers have interviewed the first external candidate in their search for a new manager.

Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo met with the Rangers on Tuesday.

Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux and Triple-A manager Steve Buechele interviewed last week.

The Rangers also plan to interview Tim Bogar, the bench coach who was 14-8 as interim manager after Ron Washington resigned for personal reasons Sept. 5. The Arizona Diamondbacks have also gotten permission to speak to Bogar about their managerial vacancy.

Texas previously announced Lovullo among five outside candidates. The others are Pittsburgh bench coach Jeff Banister, Cleveland bullpen coach Kevin Cash, Chicago White Sox third base coach Joe McEwing and former major league player Alex Cora, now a manager and general manager in the Puerto Rican Winter League.
