Rangers Interim Manager Bogar: 'I Want This Job'
ARLINGTON (105.3 THE FAN) -- Rangers interim manager Tim Bogar didn't want the job this way. But now that he's got it, he doesn't want to let it slip away.
"That was one of the most difficult days of my life, going in there right after Wash had talked to the team," said Bogar with Shan & RJ on 105.3 The Fan, describing the day that Ron Washington resigned.
"As much as I didn't want to have this job the way I got it, we have a job to do and let's get after it. [The players] have done nothing but that. It's awesome."
The team is 12-6 since Bogar took over, having won four straight and 11 of 12 games. Texas has swept three of the last four series; they hadn't recorded a series sweep since April.
Bogar says he has discussed the full-time job with GM Jon Daniels, though he realizes the process must still play itself out.
"JD and I have talked a little bit and I know that I have to go thought the process, just like every other candidate is going to have to. I feel like these three weeks -- even though JD says it's not an interview every night -- I go about it like I would if I was the regular manager. I think it's heading in the right direction."
The team is playing its best baseball of the season, strengthening Bogar's case to get the gig. And Bogar isn't shy about his desire to stay in Texas.
"Of course I want this job. I want to stay as the manager. I'm approaching it that way."
