DALLAS (The Fan) - The Rangers bolstered their bullpen this morning when they agreed to a 2-year-deal with RHP Tony Barnette.

Barnette went 3-1 with a 1.29 ERA and 41 saves last year for Nippon Professional Baseball's Tokyo Yakult Swallows.

The Swallows posted Barnette for $500,000. The Rangers would have had to pay that before they could negotiate with him.

The 32-year-old is a former Arizona Diamondbacks prospect. He was drafted in the 10th round out of Arizona State University.

Barnette never made it to the big league club, however. He last pitched for the D'backs organization in 2009 for Triple-A Reno.

He was a starter his entire minor league career before being moved to the bullpen with the Swallows.
