Rangers Acquire Catcher Carlos Corporan From Astros

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Texas Rangers have acquired catcher Carlos Corporan from the Houston Astros in exchange for minor league pitcher Akeem Bostick.

To make room for Corporan on the 40-man roster, the Rangers have designated right-hander Gonzalez Germen for assignment.

Houston designated Corporan for assignment on Tuesday after signing free agent outfielder Cody Rasmus.

The switch hitter Corporan, 31, batted .235 with six homeruns and 19 RBI in 55 games as the Astros' backup catcher last season. He is a career .226 hitter in 199 major league games with Milwaukee and Houston.

Corporan infamously ended Yu Darvish's no-hit bid on Aug. 12, 2013 at Minute Maid Park with a solo home run with one out in the eighth inning.

Bostick, 19, was 5-6 with a 5.17 ERA in 21 games (20 starts) for Low-A Hickory of the South Atlantic League in 2014. The right-hander was selected by Texas in the second round of the 2013 First Year Player Draft.

After today's trade, the Rangers' roster remains at the 40-man limit.
