DALLAS (CBS 11 SPORTS) - CBS 11 Sports has confirmed that four-time NBA All-Star Rajon Rondo has officially been traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

The deal was finalized around 7:35 pm Thursday.

In the trade the Mavs got Rondo and center Dwight Powell from the Boston Celtics in exchange for center Brandan Wright, forward Jae Crowder, guard Jameer Nelson, a 2015 first round pick and a 2016 second round pick.

Rondo was in his 9th season with the Boston Celtics and would have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

While Rondo struggles as a perimeter shooter, his defensive presence on the perimeter will fill a need for the Mavericks. The former Kentucky Wildcat has twice been named to the NBA's All-Defensive First Team (2010, 2011) and twice to the Second Team (2009, 2012).

Rondo currently leads the NBA in assists per game at 10.8. He also grabs 7.5 rebounds per game.

Powell is a rookie who played in five games this season with averages of 1.8 points, 0.2 rebounds and 1.8 minutes per game.

Powell, a former Stanford University standout, was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2014 NBA Draft. He was traded from Charlotte to Cleveland before eventually being picked up by the Celtics in a late-September trade.
