Rainy weekend ahead for North Texas; weather alerts in effect from Saturday to Monday
NORTH TEXAS – Happy Friday!
I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween and enjoyed our Fall conditions today.
Dig out the rain gear and keep it handy this weekend.
We have first alerts for Saturday, Sunday and Monday due to rounds of rain and storms in the area.
We are not expecting a complete weekend washout. There will be dry periods across the area, but you should have backup indoor plans.
Saturday morning will start with mostly cloudy skies, patchy fog, drizzle, and a few showers.
Rain will be spotty throughout the day, with increasing chances by the evening in our northwest areas.
The storms will track northeast overnight and may linger into sunrise on Sunday morning, especially along the Red River.
Sunday is a breezy, muggy, mostly cloudy day with highs in the lower 80s.
Once again spotty showers are possible during the day with rain chances increasing towards the evening hours in our northwestern areas.
There is a slight risk of a few severe storms with quarter size hail and wind gusts to 60 mph Sunday evening north of I-20 and west of I-35.
The slight risk expands to include all North Texas on Monday as the cold front moves through the area.
Stronger dynamics are in place on Monday increasing the severe threat.
Models are not in agreement on timing of storms, but the day looks very wet.
We will continue to refine the timeframe of strong to severe storms this weekend.
You will want to keep your rain gear handy and have multiple ways of receiving severe notifications.
The unsettled pattern will bring us much needed rain with the highest totals along the Red River.
A few showers may linger early Tuesday morning, but the front will pull east leaving a mix of sun and clouds for most of our Election day.
Breezy northerly winds will usher in cooler air, keeping highs in the 60s Tuesday and morning lows in the upper 40s on Wednesday.
After a brief lull in the precipitation, rain chances increase once again Wednesday night into Thursday.
Have a great weekend!
