Rain, Flooding Causes Delays On Highway 75 In McKinney

MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - For the second day, rain played havoc with drivers on stretches of US 75 in McKinney.

But unlike Thursday, police did not have to shut down the freeway due to flooding.

Still, ponding water slowed and sometimes stalled traffic in the northbound lanes.

Scott Owens drives from Fairview to Prosper and claims there are large puddles on the pavement every day, rain or shine.

"It's just standing water all the time. In the wintertime, that turns to ice and you have accidents. So it's a total waste of money, in my opinion," he said. "They haven't done a good engineering job."

Southbound, one lane was closed for a time as workers rearranged concrete barriers to ease runoff issues, according to TX-DOT.

A large water pump was on the scene to move flowing water from the pavement into a sump pit.

As of Friday afternoon, neither the police nor city street workers were asked to step in to help the construction company handle any traffic emergencies.

But with more rain on the horizon and Friday night rush hour coming, local residents say, "If you want to drive, stay off 75." They say they avoid the highway, if at all possible.
