Rain Damages Roof Of Fort Worth Business
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Powerful storms and flash flooding struck south Fort Worth on Tuesday afternoon. Now, while the water is still receeding, cleanup efforts are just beginning. The damage was so severe that one Fort Worth business will not be opening on Wednesday because of a roof collapse.
Wine Haus is located near the intersection of Park Place Avenue and 8th Avenue in Fort Worth. The 28-year-old owner of the business also lives in the building with her dogs, but they were not hurt because they were downstairs at the time of the collapse. Most of the building's roof is gone now. The owner said that, when the roof caved in, water burst through the staircase and doors and into the business.
The owner was too shaken to speak much more about the incident.
Wine Haus is in a very tight-knit community. Neighbors have already gone to social media websites to talk about ways that they could help out.
Firefighters in Fort Worth responded to more than 200 calls for assistance during the Tuesday afternoon storms. Some were reports of downed power lines. Thousands of people lost electricity on Tuesday, mostly in Tarrant County. There were eight fires during the storm, including one at a home along West 6th Street. Investigators suspect that lightning sparked the flames.
Many drivers also faced dangerous roadways due to ponding in road construction zones.
