Racist Fliers Posted At SMU

DALLAS (CBS11) - The offensive fliers are gone after being discovered in an SMU residence hall two days ago.
But many students are still outraged over the fact someone decided to post them in a public place on campus.
The flier that ignited campus outrage and quickly went viral was titled "Why White Women Shouldn't Date Black Men."
"Honestly, it kind of upsets me because I'm currently in an interracial relationship," said SMU student Natasha Garcia. "I feel like you shouldn't be able to tell anyone who they should or shouldn't date because at the end of the day it's their choice."
The fliers show pictures of white women and black men. Headlines say: "He's Much More Likely To Abuse You," and "He's Much More Likely To Have STD's."
SMU said two fliers were reportedly found inside Armstrong Commons.
Similar fliers have made the rounds at other college campuses nationwide.
"Everyone is being encouraged to take the fliers down, and try to see the person who puts them up. Right now that's all we know," said SMU student Jabari Ford.
In a statement, SMU said:
"SMU condemns the racist and hateful message in these fliers. These messages have no place at SMU and are in opposition to our values and commitment to an environment free from discrimination."
Administrators encourage anyone who sees the fliers to call campus police.
Concerned students have met with SMU's Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and plan to meet again.
