ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- Interstate 20 between Bowman Spring and Highway 287 will remain closed until Saturday morning due to a propane fire that is burning as a result of a collision between a delivery truck and car.

The City of Arlington said they expect the fire to continue burning through the night, until the morning.

Out of fear of an explosion, the heavily traveled I-20 was closed in both directions as crews waited for the propane take to burn itself out.

"The traffic must be backed up to Mississippi by now!" said Dennis Bullock, a driver who got stuck in the mess.

The traffic was so bad some drivers nearly ran out of gas trying to get around the mess.

"It is annoying because this is a main interstate highway and a lot of people who are traveling and they don't know their way around," said Rachael Jones.

The situation was so dangerous that the fire department advised residents nearby to evacuate.

"We're going to have to let it burn itself out. And we have to make sure we have a safe area," said Asst. Chief Bill McQuatters of the Arlington Fire Department.

How long it will take to clean the mess up has not been released.

Drivers are advised to find alternate routes.

The drivers involved in the crash did not suffer serious injuries according to police.
