Princeton ISD On High Alert After Threat

PRINCETON (CBSDFW.COM) - Schools in the Princeton Independent School District are on high alert Wednesday after a threat was made on social media. Police have a suspect in custody, but precautions are still being made for those students attending their classes.

It was shortly before 3:00 a.m. when the school district sent the following message on Twitter, confirming that a threat was made online.

Authorities later reported that the threat was made using an app called BurnBook, where users can anonymously write about local schools. The threat was related to a possible school shooting, and included a selfie of the alleged writer.

Police and school district officials were able to track down the juvenile suspect, who does not even attend classes in the Princeton ISD. That person was taken into custody on Tuesday for making a terroristic threat. Because of the suspect's age, their identity is not being released.

There are no additional suspects in this case.

The Princeton ISD is a small district with just six schools, most of which are located within the same combined campus. Schools will be open on Wednesday despite the online threat, but officials have promised that additional police officers will be patrolling the area.

Some parents still decided to keep their kids at home on Wednesday.

The added security comes out of an abundance of caution. Kids at Princeton High School were forced to move through metal detectors on Wednesday morning -- instead of just walking in -- and have their bags searched. No weapons were found.
