Prince Fielder Remains Sidelined With Injury
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- Prince Fielder will miss his third straight game on Tuesday night with lingering weakness behind his left shoulder.
The Rangers first baseman missed two games with a herniated disk in his neck this weekend.
Outfielder Leonys Martin was also scratched from Tuesday's game with a stiff neck.
The durable Fielder ended his consecutive games streak at 547, missing Saturday's home game against the Blue Jays. Before Saturday, Fielder last missed a game on Sept. 13, 2010.
Fielder received an injection on Saturday morning; Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said he hoped Fielder would be ready by tonight.
Though Fielder has improved his hitting in May, the left-handed hitter has struggled since coming to Texas this offseason. He's hitting just .247 with 16 RBIs and three homeruns. In each of his eight full major league seasons, Fielder has never hit fewer than 25 homeruns.
Without discussing details, Daniels suggested that the injury could be partially to blame.
"It stands to reason it has been affecting his swing," Daniels said. "He described it as a lack of strength in his left arm."
Colby Lewis (3-2, 4.99 ERA) will be on the mound and opposing Seattle's Hisashi Iwakuma (2-0, 1.59 ERA).
The fourth place Rangers have lost six of eight games and currently sit seven games behind the division-leading A's.
