Price Back To Work At Commissioners Court
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price exited a federal courthouse nearly two weeks ago, maintaining his innocence. The longtime city official was arrested on a host of charges including bribery and corruption. However, despite the legal scandal, Price promised to continue his work.
Tuesday morning marked the first time that Dallas County commissioners have met since Price's arrest. Price offered no comment about his legal matters before the meeting, nor did any other member of the Dallas County Commissioners Court. Everything has been business as usual.
The session began at 9:00 a.m. and officials voted on some items on their agenda. So far, Price has simply continued in the role that he was elected to hold, and has been in for nearly 30 years.
But the head of the Dallas County Republican Party urged commissioners to ask Price to step down from that position until his trial. "I hope they'll address it," added Dallas County Republican Party chairman Wade Emmert. "Every single one of the county commissioners and the county judge, when they ran for office, talked about integrity and bringing honor and integrity to Dallas County government. Now is their chance to take a stand and do that."
Emmert wants the court to vote on a resolution that would suspend Price with pay.
