Postal Worker Arrested After Holding Employees At Gunpoint

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A Fort Worth postal worker is in police custody, accused of holding several co-workers at gunpoint. The incident happened at the Riverside station post office in the 400 block of Retta Street around 7:30 a.m.
An emergency call was placed reporting a man with a gun. Authorities say employee Jason Silmon told nearly a dozen co-workers to get on the ground, at gunpoint. The employees did what they were told.
The incident happened before the post office opened to the public, so employees were the only people at the facility.
According to authorities, Silmon only held the group at gunpoint for a few minutes. Silmon is said to have simply put his gun down and sat waiting for police to arrive.
Long-time customers were shocked to hear what happened. Jeanie Burns said, "It's scary. You know, this has been my post office for like 15 years. I know the people I there … they're family. So, that's really scary."
Juan Flores lives right down the street from Riverside post office. "I've got my family, my kids and my wife that stay over there in the house," he said. "Yeah it's scary. I'll have to check on her more."
Customers said they believe Silmon was a relatively new employee at the northwest Fort Worth location. The 27-year-old man is now facing Aggravated Assault charges.
