KELLER (CBSDFW.COM) - Two people were found dead Wednesday morning at the Whitley Place assisted living center in Keller, and the case is being investigated as a possible murder-suicide. The bodies of a husband and wife were discovered at around 6:30 a.m. by the facility's staff members.

The living center is located in the 800 block of Whitley Road.

According to Lt. Brenda Slovak with the Keller Police Department, the husband routinely woke up before the wife and left the couple's room each morning to get coffee. When he did not come out of their room on Wednesday, the nursing staff became worried.

Workers went into the room to check on the couple, and found them both dead inside. A female employee called police to the scene.

The wife was found with a gunshot wound to the head, and a small calibur handgun was discovered inside of the room. Police said that it looks as though the husband killed the wife before turning the gun on himself. "That's what it appears at this moment," said Slovak, "that he shot her and then shot himself."

Nobody at the living center heard the gunshots.

The husband and wife were later identified as 90-year-old Joe Woolum and 90-year-old Georgianne Woolum. Workers said that the couple was fine at their last check, which was at about 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. They have been residents of the living center since 2013.

"This is disturbing and unfortunate, because this is an elderly couple," Slovak added. "We think there may have been some medical issues but, of course, we don't know that at this point."
