Popular Wedding Venue Burns Before Busy Season
DENTON (CBS 11 NEWS) - Tucked away in Denton is a sprawling ranch that's become a popular wedding venue.
It's acres of green hills will buffalo roaming around.
The picturesque setting is what Jocelyn Kendall fell in love with in August, "It's just a really pretty location."
She's getting married on Saturday, but there's been a setback.
"It was shocking and kind of disappointing. At least it wasn't the day of our wedding," says Kendall who lives in Denton. "I think being stressed and being angry about it wouldn't help anything. It's obviously not their fault, and I know they are working really hard to try to get everything together and I appreciate that."
A fire ripped through the garage and office area of the Buffalo Valley Event Center in Denton Wednesday morning.
Though the courtyard is fine, but the ballroom has heavy smoke damage.
One of the owners, Xernie Meritt, says it's on to Plan B.
"There is nothing we can do about what happened…but there is something we can do about what can be done to make it as bright and good as possible," says Merritt.
Crews are already working on repairs which are expected to take a few months.
"Even though we've had a minor setback when we are all said and done it's going to be like brand new," explains Meritt. "It's going to be even better than it was."
Couples with upcoming "I dos" have all been notified.
Meritt promises a quaint and beautiful wedding for everyone.
"Don't panic everything will be OK. We will do everything in our power out here to make their special day as special and good as possible," says Meritt. "We are going to put up a nice tent and put up all the lighting and do temporary power and restrooms."
A tent is being brought in for this weekend's wedding.
Kendall says she's not going to stress days before her wedding.
"We are still going to be married and will have all our friends and family together," says Kendall. "That's really what's important to us."
Guyer High School in Denton will be having prom later this month at the event center.
Merritt says they will also do everything they can to make sure that event goes off without a hitch.
