DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – VA police in Dallas shot a man today outside a small clinic a few miles west of the main VA Medical Center.

It happened at the facility on Polk Street where veterans have basic primary care appointments.

The unidentified man walked into the clinic and was upset about an issue regarding his medication. His anger intensified and he attempted to hit the desk clerk. VA police were called and the situation escalated outside.

VA police shot the man after he retrieved a handgun from a vehicle in the parking lot and pointed the gun at the officer.

Paramedics took the man to Methodist Central hospital. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

The VA closed the clinic after the shooting. The staff of about 20-25 went home for the day, except for a doctor and a nurse.

The man faces a charge of aggravated assault on a public servant.
