Police Search For Trespassers Who Caused Deadly Hit & Run

ELLIS COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Waxahachie are baffled by what happened down a dark, dirt road in the Ellis County city. That's where a man was killed in a hit and run crash. But this wreck happened on the man's own farm.

Late Friday night there was still broken glass on the dirt road leading to Justin Woodall's 80-acre Waxahachie farm.

The debris is all that's left from a violent collision that left killed the landowner. The incident unfolded as Woodall tried to chase someone off his property.

Rachel Woodall still can't believe her nephew is gone. "It's just despicable that somebody wouldn't render aid," she said. "It's heartbreaking to lose him."

There are No Trespassing signs at the entrance to Justin Woodall's farm. He posted the warnings after having continuing problems with strangers driving up his dirt road to drink, shoot fireworks or illegally fish in the family pond.

Rachel Woodall says her nephew was just looking out for his family. "He just didn't like dangerous people possibly or people he didn't know on his property, close to his wife, close to his home."

Family members believe Justin, 31, was chasing trespassers off his property two weeks ago when the intruder's vehicle struck his pickup truck and caused it to rollover. Justin died at the scene.

There were witnesses across the street that saw the wreck and told authorities that a dark green SUV, possibly a Chevy Suburban, drove from the scene.

Despite the firsthand account, Waxahachie police say they have few leads or evidence to help find the suspects or heal the family's grief.

Rachel Woodall is left hurting and disgusted by the actions of the trespassers. "I think it's disgusting. Anyone that had a heart would have at least called 911 and rendered aid."
