Police Say Murphy Teen Shot Mom With Pellet Gun

MURPHY (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Murphy are looking for a teenager who has been accused of shooting his mom in the face with a pellet gun. The incident happened at around 6:30 a.m. at a home along Hampstead Drive. Officers arrived to find the woman injured and her son missing.
Investigators explained that the 15-year-old boy got into an argument with his mother, the details of which were not discussed openly. Neighbors reported hearing yelling coming from the family's home. The disagreement turned physical, officials stated, and the teen pulled out a pellet gun and fired. The mother was struck in the lower portion of her face.
The boy then took off in the family's SUV, leaving the gun behind at home.
Emergency crews took the mother to Methodist Richardson Medical Center. She is listed in good condition. Her name has not been released. Meanwhile, her son is wanted for questioning. Chief Arthur Cotten of the Murphy Police Department said that the boy is not considered a threat to the community.
The teen is a student at a private school in Dallas. That school has been made aware of the situation. Police are continuing to investigate this case while searching for the child.
