Police: Pastor Shoots Burglary Suspect At Church In Baytown, TX

BAYTOWN, Texas (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Police say a pastor at a Houston-area church has shot a burglary suspect.

Baytown police say the shooting happened around dawn Tuesday and the wounded man was transported to a hospital. His condition wasn't immediately released.

Officers converged on the Church of New Beginnings in Baytown, about 20 miles east of Houston, following reports of gunfire.

Assistant Chief Roger Clifford says the pastor was at the church when he heard someone trying to break into the building. The minister then armed himself and shot the suspect.

According to KHOU 11 TV in Houston,  police said the pastor was asleep at the time when he heard the intruder.

Police didn't immediately release the name of the pastor.

Further details weren't immediately released.

Baytown, TX is a suburb of Houston located east of that city.
