Police Officer Returns To Work After MS Treatment

PANTEGO (CBSDFW.COM) - Monday marks the start of a new chapter for a former police officer who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis more than four years ago. Sheli Godbold will officially be back on the job again after life-changing treatment made her well enough to return to work.
It has been a long road for Godbold since her April 2012 diagnosis. She was left bound to a wheelchair and hardly able to take care of herself. "I was devastated," Godbold said. "I had my dream job. Always wanted to be a cop. I was a cop and, for a while there, I thought my life was over."
But the former police officer took a leap of faith. She traveled to Russia to receive experimental stem cell treatment in hopes of finding a way to survive. "It is risky, but I'm a risk-taker," continued Godbold. "I'm out here in the streets every day."
Now, two year after returning to the United States, Godbold is able to walk again, and is even well enough to work. "Just don't give up," she said during training this month. "People may tell you 'no, you can't do that' or 'that's impossible.' Don't listen to them. You know what' in your heart."
Godbold had previously been a police officer in Euless. She will now continue to fulfill that dream as part of the Pantego Police Department. After a pinning ceremony on Monday night, where the city's mayor will present Godbold with her badge, she will once again be able to patrol the streets. It will undoubtedly be a very emotional moment.
