HOMER, La. (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Louisiana state police say two people died in a one vehicle crash on Highway 3062, just west of U.S. Highway 79 Bypass in Claiborne Parish.

Trooper Matt Harris said a small SUV driven by 24-year-old Max Waganer was traveling east on Highway 3062 late Saturday night when the vehicle ran off the roadway, overturned and struck a tree.

Harris says Waganer and his passenger, 24-year-old Erin Guzy, of Mesquite, were not wearing their seatbelts and died at the scene.

Harris says speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample from Waganer will be submitted for analysis.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
