ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Arlington police are blaming a jealous ex-boyfriend for opening fire outside a Whataburger and a leaving a trail of accidents in his attempt to escape.

Police say the man followed an SUV with his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend inside to the restaurant.

That's where he's accused of firing several shot striking the boyfriend inside.

Officers chased him for nearly half an hour as he drove erratically through Fort Worth and then Euless.

On Highway 183, he made a U-turn into oncoming traffic.

"I was terrified. I was like - I don't even know what to think. It was terrifying," said Carley Minniear.

She had only a second to react, when she spotted the suspect.

"All of a sudden this car is trying to drive down the middle of the lane. He hits the guy in front of me and then me and then the charter bus and the person behind me," she said.

Milton Bradley was driving the charter bus and braced himself for a direct hit.

"It was either him or me, and all I could say was 'oh well' and luckily he pulled to the right," he said.

The chase finally came to an end outside a Euless apartment complex.

Katherine Smith heard loud sirens outside her window.

"The police had pulled over a car and over the horn were asking the gentleman, the person inside the car to come out," she said.

Police said the suspect surrendered.

Jail records show Reuben Rivera was booked into the Arlington jail soon after.

The victim of the shooting has not yet been identified. He was taken to the hospital but his condition is unknown.
