Armed Suspect in Stolen Vehicle Shot By Mesquite Officer In Dallas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An armed suspect driving a stolen vehicle was shot by a Mesquite officer after a chase that ended in Dallas Saturday afternoon, police say.

Dallas police, who are investigating the incident, say they responded to an assist an officer call in the 6000 block of Lovett Avenue at around 3:45 p.m.

According to police, officers were pursuing a stolen vehicle out of Mesquite and into Dallas when the chase ended in a neighborhood. The suspect left the vehicle and ran away.

During a foot chase, the suspect pulled out a handgun in the backyard of a home on Lovett Avenue, police say. A Mesquite officer then shot the suspect.

Police say the suspect was taken to the hospital to treat injuries. The suspect has not yet been identified.

There were no officers injured during the incident.

Police say a gun was recovered from the suspect at the scene.
