Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting In Garland, Machete-Wielding Suspect Injured

GARLAND, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Garland after a man started hitting cars with a machete.

It happened in the 1400 block of South Third Street. When officers arrived they began to negotiate with the man, Scott Norris, 38, but he was threatening to commit suicide.

Toward the end, the Norris threatened officers and one of them shot him.

Norris was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

He was later was released after treatment to police custody and transported to the Garland Jail.  

Norris is charged with Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant. 

The officer, an eight year veteran will be placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy.
