Police Investigate Possible Hate Crime; Victim Beaten With Bat

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Police in Dallas are investigating a beating in the Oak Lawn area as a possible hate crime.

"I saw his face there was blood everywhere… this was very bad," said witness Fransciso Garcia about the victim who was attacked with a baseball bat.

Garcia and his partner found the victim lying in a pool of blood.

"I told him don't worry about it we called the police already don't worry about it don't talk don't say nothing everything is ok," said Garcia.

The 29-year-old's dried blood is still on the pavement where witnesses said he was dumped after a group of four men attacked him while yelling anti-gay slurs.

Garcia's home security camera recorded a light colored pickup truck driving by his house and making a U-turn seconds before he heard screams for help.

Garcia said Dallas police have yet to retrieve their video, which could be the best clues.

The victim suffered a possible skull fracture but was talking to police early this morning and believes he was targeted because he's gay.
