Police Chase Ends With Multi-Vehicle Crash, 1 Dead

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A police chase in Mesquite ends with a deadly crash at the Dallas intersection of Ferguson and Shiloh. An estimated seven cars were involved in the initial and chain reaction crashes.

Police tell CBS 11 News a 911 caller reported that a possible drunk driver was driving erratically near Interstate-635 and Gross Road.  A police officer located the car and began following the vehicle.  Police gave chase when the vehicle ran a red light 635 and Ferguson.

With officers in pursuit, the driver crashed into several vehicles after running another red light at Ferguson and Shiloh.

Surveillance video from a convenience store shows the suspect car running the red light and crashing into several cars and a van. Several of the vehicles hit burst into flames. People could be seen fighting to get out of their damaged vehicles.

One person was killed in the crash and several others injured.


The suspect vehicle flipped in the crash. One person was thrown fro the vehicle. The driver and passenger were both taken to the hospital.

One woman was sitting in her car at a nearby gas station when her vehicle was t-boned by one of the cars initially hit. "I heard a noise and so I looked to my right and I saw a car completely engulfed in flames. It was behind this van and it pushed the van into the door as I'm sitting in the car, so I was trapped and pinned against this gas pump."  The woman was not seriously injured.

As of 11pm police were still at the scene investigating.
