Plano Police Pursuit Ends With Deadly Crash

PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - Plano Police are investigating a crash that killed one person and sent another to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Early Wednesday morning, shortly after 4 a.m., police received a call about a fight between several people in a parking lot located in the 7400 block of Alma. When police arrived, the fight broke up and one of the vehicles took off headed south bound on Alma.

Police say they stopped the driver, and appeared to be drunk. According to police, the driver sped off as an officer was questioning him. Another officer tried to stop him and chased him for awhile, but was unable to stop him. The driver eventually lost control of his car, hit a median, crossed into the opposite lanes of traffic before hitting a parked van and dumpster in the 3900 block of Alma.  Police estimate he was traveling more than 100 miles per hour before he crashed.  Police were seen bagging several pieces of evidence from inside the car, including a bottle of liquor.

The passenger of the vehicle, a young man in his 20s was killed. The driver, also a young man in his 20s, was taken to the hospital.

The crash caused damage to nearby daycare, Small Miracles Academy, which will be closed for the day while the investigation continues. Northbound and Southbound Alma were also shut down near Cross Bend road through the morning rush hour.
