PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - Plano is about to be part of the world's largest swimming lesson.

Since drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death of children, The World's Largest Swimming Lesson is looking to take on the problem head on.

Aquatic facilities in Plano and around the world will unite on Friday, June 24, for the seventh year in a row to participate in the world's largest swimming lesson.

Research shows that participation in formal swimming lessons reduces the risk of drowning by 88 percent for children ages 1-4, sadly many children do not receive proper lessons.

This program has given lessons to more than 155,000 children and adults around the world, with 38,170 participating in 2015.

This year's event will take place over the course of 24 hours at three locations in Plano, and 500 other locations in more than 20 countries.

The Plano event times are as follows:

8:00 a.m. Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center

Noon Oak Point Recreation Center

2:00 p.m. Harry Rowlinson Natatorium
