Subject At Plano Apartment Incident Kills Self Hours After Shooting Responding Officer

PLANO, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - A person who police described as "distressed" shot and killed himself at a Plano apartment complex Thursday afternoon, ending an hours-long negotiation by officers.

Police said they responded to a welfare check in the 6400 block of Ohio Drive regarding a person who called 911 in a "very distressed mode."

According to police, the person was considered a suicidal threat and that the person also threatened to shoot responding officers.

Police said the person fired at least one shot at a patrol car, injuring an officer. Police said the officer's injuries are minor.

Crisis negotiators also responded to the scene and a perimeter was set up in an effort to keep residents away from the area.

At around 3:30 p.m., police said the subject shot and killed himself. He has not yet been identified.

Police did not release further details on the incident or what led them to respond to the scene.
