Plano Police Officer Saves Baby At Carnival

PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - A baby's life on the line, a police officer desperately trying to revive him, and more than 100 onlookers watching and praying. That dramatic scene played out in Plano when an infant's heart stopped beating during a family outing on Sunday.
Detective Tony Vidmar was working security at a carnival outside of the Collin Creek Mall when a woman ran toward him with a baby turning blue. The officer went to work right in middle of the traveling amusement park, trying to revive the infant.
Vidmar knew that CPR on babies was different than on adults, and massaged the baby's chest rather than administer standard CPR.
A crowd of more than 100 people started cheering when the 5-month-old boy eventually opened his eyes.
"I was thinking about my youngest daughter and just her growing up, and I was just thinking, in my mind, I've got to keep going, got to keep going," said Vidmar.
The baby was taken a hospital, but is already back home with his mother. She explained that he was a preemie baby. "What he did for my son, there's no way I can repay him," said Zahiva Godinez, the child's mother, about the officer's heroics.
