Pistachio Co. Issues Voluntary Recall, Cites Salmonella Concerns

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Officials with Wonderful Pistachios announced that the company is voluntarily recalling certain flavors and sizes of in-shell and shelled pistachios, because a risk of Salmonella contamination.

Centers for Disease Control officials say some of the Wonderful Pistachios may be linked to an outbreak of Salmonellosis.

The products on the voluntary recall were distributed through several retailers nationwide. They can be identified by a 13-digit lot code number found on the lower back or bottom panel of the package.

The most common symptoms of salmonella are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within eight to 72 hours of eating a contaminated product. The illness can be life threatening to people with weakened immune systems.
