COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry is making a trip to South Carolina on the heels of his official entry into the 2016 presidential race.

Perry is visiting the South Carolina Military Museum in Columbia on Monday. Later, he's holding a town hall meeting at the U.S.S. Yorktown in Mount Pleasant.

The Republican is accompanied by Marcus Luttrell, a longtime Perry friend and the only survivor of a four-man team attacked in Afghanistan. Luttrell's story was featured in the 2013 film "Lone Survivor."

Perry officially announced his candidacy last week for the 2016 presidential contest.
