GLENN HEIGHTS (CBS11) — The Ovilla Road Church of Nazarene in Glenn Heights was leveled by a tornado in Ellis County Saturday night.

Pastor Ron Adams said the church has been part of the community for 27 years. Adams said the sanctuary was destroyed, two church vans were flipped and a second building on their property was damaged.

Officials confirmed at least 11 people died after tornadoes hit North Texas on Saturday. Gov. Greg Abbot declared Ellis County, along with three others, disaster areas.

Even with Sunday's rain, people have been showing up all day to help Adams clean up debris and salvage what they could.

Adams said they had 60 to 80 people show up for a service Sunday morning.

"We sang a couple of songs, amazing grace, victory in Jesus. We praise God that no one was hurt. Our mantra as of last night was [to rebuild] bigger and better," Adams said.

Adams said there was something else that gave him hope things were going to be OK: In all of this debris, there was one thing that didn't get damaged — the dove from the church's stained glass window.
