ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A part-time Arlington police officer was arrested for driving while intoxicated after an incident while off-duty Sunday in his personal vehicle.

The Arlington Police Department responded to a minor crash at a restaurant parking lot in the 5300 block of Matlock Road around 6:40 p.m. Sunday.

A vehicle was backing out of a parking spot and struck another car that was traveling through the parking lot. The occupant of the vehicle that was backing up was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested for driving while intoxicated. No one was hurt.

That driver was identified as Douglas Ligon, who was employed as a part-time Police Officer for the City of Arlington since April of 2008.

According to APD, his most recent assignment was serving as the liaison with the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office. He was previously employed as a full-time police officer for the City of Arlington from 1979 to 2008.

Since his arrest, Ligon has resigned employment with the Arlington Police Department. Due to his resignation, there will be no administrative investigation that occurs. The criminal case will be forwarded to the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
