Parents Upset Over 'Pay To Play' Proposal For Frisco ISD Students

FRISCO (1080 KRLD) - Following the news of a budget shortfall in the Frisco ISD, some parents of Frisco students are outraged over a potential new "pay to play" situation.
Frisco ISD has proposed at $300 annual fee for each extracurricular activity a student participates in, whether it be fine arts or sports.
For some parents with kids active in extracurriculars, that adds up fast.
Marie Bernadini's middle school son Ethan plays football and is in the band. She says for his activities alone she'd have to reach too far down into her wallet.
"$1,200 just for him," said Bernadini. "Not including my high school student and my daughter that's coming up right behind him?"
Bernadini says if this fee is implemented her kids would have to cut back on activities, and she worries that with less to occupy them -- they'll get bored.
Parents are also concerned over how the fee might affect Frisco's lower income families.
Frisco ISD says it's too soon to say whether this fee would actually become a reality.
