MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) - Whether it's cabin fever from being cooped up too long, or child care crisis created when the schools have to close, the city of Mesquite has a win-win solution: day camp.

Even though parents have to go to work, kids still want to have fun. Jessica Larson is considered an 'essential employee' with the city of Mesquite so she, too, must brave the bad weather and report to work. Larson says, "Mommy guilt. Mommy guilt will eat you alive."

Because she's also a mom that means arranging last minute child care on ice days. Last year, the city Mesquite began providing local parents a day camp option at Dunford Recreation Center.
The center opens anytime Mesquite ISD closes and costs just $16 a day.

Larson, the mother of two says, "They are safe, they are making friends and I can relax and concentrate on my job knowing that my kids are well cared for, having fun, and at the end of the day when I pick 'em, they're begging to stay.

This day camp option is only available to Mesquite ISD parents, so a lot of working parents in other areas are still left scrambling on ice days.
