FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – The outpouring of support and well wishes for Officer Matthew Pearce, who was shot by a wanted suspect -- and the entire Fort Worth Police department continues as the wounded officer remains in critical condition.

From prayers to gestures of good will, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price described the support as abundant.  "They are overwhelmed that this community cares as much as it does. They knew it did. It's times like this that brings the very best out in our community."

One man who lives near the scene where Pearce was shot expressed his dismay at the violence that took place not far from his front door.

"I hate what happened… we wish him well and I think the community is 100 percent behind the police department," said Charles Owen.

The support for officer Pearce and the FWPD is not just coming from residents, but from some of Cowtown's most recognized establishments.

Railhead Smokehouse owner Charlie Geren offered up more than 200 meals for officers following the shooting as a show of appreciation.

"I'm from Fort Worth, and we're proud of what we've got, and we're just trying to do what we can to help in times of need," said Gilbart Gamez, Railhead General Manager.
