DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A man who was trying to renew his drivers license ended up being shot by police 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

It happened in a shopping center in East Dallas on Northwest Highway and Jupiter Road.

The DPS says the man was attempting to renew a driver license when it was determined he had an outstanding felony warrant.

When a state trooper attempted to arrest the suspect, he ran out of the office and took off in a white BMW.

An off-duty Ferris police officer was in the area and came to help the trooper.

During the incident, the trooper and the officer fired their guns at the suspect.

The suspect was struck and suffered non-life threatening injures.

He was treated and released from the hospital and was taken into custody by law enforcement.

Another occupant in the BMW was uninjured, and it is unclear how or if that person is involved in the incident.
