One Dead After Fort Worth Apartment Fire
FORT WORTH, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - One person is dead following an early morning fire at a SW Fort Worth apartment complex.
According to officials, fire units were dispatched to the King Ranch Apartments near I-30 and the Chisolm Trail Parkway at 8:00am Friday morning after calls of smoke showing from the apartment building were received.
Reports say that when fire crews entered the apartment they found a small fire that had been held in check by the sprinkler system and was contained to the room of origin.
Inside the apartment found Fort Worth FD had found the body of a woman.
Fort Worth Firefighter Tim Hardeman says police have taken over the investigation to figure out if the person's death was smoke-related, natural causes or something else.
One family told CBS 11 they believe the body of the deceased is their daughter 31-year-old Ashlea Harris.
According to her father Harris lived in that 2nd floor apartment.
They are waiting to get more information from police. The family believes the young woman worked a Black Friday shift at the Hulen mall, clocked out around 4 a.m. Friday morning and came home to her apartment.
Police have are now confirming that it was indeed Ashlea Harris who died in the apartment fire.
They also confirmed that Harris did not die of natural causes and that her death is a possible homicide.
Due to the investigation no further information is being released at this time.
