DALLAS (CBSDFW) - A Dallas police officer who was fired after an altercation with a suspect in Deep Ellum is coming back to work.

Dallas Police Officer Jesus Martinez was fired last year and charged with official oppression over his use of force against a panhanding suspect.

The criminal charge was later dropped, and now, Martinez has won an appeal to a civil service review board to get his job back.

His case generated support from business owners in Deep Ellum who placed posters in their store windows and printed t-shirts with his picture.

In addition to getting his job back, Martinez will also be entitled to back pay.
